Is Your Roof Storm-Ready? Texas Homeowner Checklist
Iron Eagle Roofing | Built on Strength. Driven by Integrity.
When storms roll through North and Central Texas, your roof is your home’s first line of defense. High winds, hail, and heavy rain can do serious damage—and unfortunately, many homeowners don’t realize their roof isn’t ready until it’s too late.
At Iron Eagle Roofing, we believe in preparation over panic. That’s why we’ve put together this easy checklist to help you get storm-ready now—before the next system hits. Let's see how your home stands up!
1. Start With a Visual Roof Inspection
You don’t need to climb up on your roof—just step outside and look for:
• Curled, cracked, or missing shingles
• Rusted flashing or exposed nail heads
• Sagging or uneven rooflines
• Granule buildup in your gutters
If you spot any of these, it could mean your roof is vulnerable to leaks and wind damage.
2. Check Gutters and Downspouts
Clogged or loose gutters can back up water onto your roof and siding. Make sure:
• Gutters are clear of leaves, twigs, and debris
• Downspouts are securely attached and draining away from your foundation
• No sections are sagging or pulling away
• Bonus tip: Consider installing gutter guards before storm season.
3. Inspect Your Attic
Often, signs of a failing roof show up inside your home first. Look for:
• Water stains or damp insulation
• Mold, mildew, or musty odors
• Sunlight peeking through roof boards
Catch these early, and you might prevent thousands in water damage. Please be sure to watch overhead for nails or other items that could cause you injury.
4. Trim Back Trees and Branches
Overhanging limbs can scrape shingles or break off in high winds. Trim them at least 6 feet away from your roofline to reduce the risk of impact damage. Plus this will stop those squirrels from getting…squirrely and jumping onto your home and chewing their way inside.
5. Review Your Insurance Policy
Now’s the time to understand your coverage—not after the storm hits. Know:
• Your deductible for wind and hail
• If you’re covered for full replacement cost or actual cash value
• How to file a claim (and who to call first—hint: a trusted roofing contractor. Hint hint: us 🙂)
6. Schedule a Professional Roof Inspection
Even if everything looks like it might be “okay”, minor damage can go unseen by the untrained eye. At Iron Eagle Roofing, we offer free storm-readiness inspections to give you peace of mind.
We’ll check:
• Shingle integrity
• Flashing and ventilation
• Valleys, ridges, and vulnerable roof edges
• Current condition vs. insurance standards
🛡️ Be Proactive, Not Reactive
Storm damage is stressful. Protecting your home doesn’t have to be. A little preparation now could save you thousands—and a major headache—later.
Let Iron Eagle Roofing help you stay one step ahead of Texas weather.
