Architectual Shingles

Architectural Shingles: Timeless Appeal. Proven Protection.

What Are Architectural Shingles?

Architectural shingles (also known as laminated or dimensional shingles) are a premium type of asphalt roofing material designed with multiple layers of asphalt and granules to give a thicker, more dimensional look than traditional 3-tab shingles. They mimic the appearance of cedar shakes or slate while offering modern performance and affordability.

Architectural shingles come in a wide variety of textures, tones, and patterns, allowing homeowners to match the style of their home:

  • High-Definition (HD) Lines: Bold color blends and shadow lines (e.g., GAF Timberline HDZ, Owens Corning Duration).

  • Shake-Inspired Styles: Thicker profiles and rustic finish (e.g., CertainTeed Landmark or Tamko Heritage).

  • Luxury or Designer Shingles: Mimic slate or tile with even higher durability and a more upscale look (e.g., GAF Grand Sequoia or CertainTeed Presidential Shake).

There are many excellent manufacturers of architectural shingles. Here are some of the best-known and widely trusted:

  • Owens Corning – Duration Series (great wind resistance & SureNail strip)

  • GAF – Timberline HDZ (popular with excellent warranties)

  • CertainTeed – Landmark Series (luxury and high-end options)

  • Tamko – Heritage & Titan XT (durable and budget-friendly)

  • Atlas – Pinnacle Pristine (Scotchgard™ algae protection)

Architectural shingles offer the best balance of appearance, durability, and cost for most homeowners. With proper installation, they hold up to North Texas weather, improve curb appeal, and can even reduce insurance premiums if impact-rated.
